IRCC Invites 1,800 Candidates in Third Express Entry Draw of the Week

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 1,800 invitations to apply (ITAs) in the third Express Entry draw of the week. These invitations were issued under a category-based selection for candidates with French language proficiency, requiring a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 400 for consideration.

Today's minimum CRS score represents one of the lowest scores of the year for any Express Entry draw. Yesterday's draw specifically for Canadian Experience Class candidates also marked the lowest score for any non-category-based selection draw this year, at 515.

Earlier this week, IRCC invited 1,391 candidates in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only draw with a minimum CRS score of 670. Prior to that, on July 8, IRCC invited 3,200 candidates in a category-based selection draw focusing on French proficiency.

In PNP-only Express Entry draws, CRS scores tend to be higher than average because candidates who have been successfully nominated automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points, boosting their overall score significantly. For instance, a candidate with a score of 300 who is nominated will then have an overall CRS score of 900.

So far this month, IRCC has issued 19,161 ITAs over seven separate draws, making it the busiest month for Express Entry this year.

Summary of Express Entry draw results in 2024:

- July 18: French language proficiency - 1,800 ITAs, Minimum CRS 400

- July 17: Canadian Experience Class - 6,300 ITAs, Minimum CRS 515

- July 16: Provincial Nominee Program - 1,391 ITAs, Minimum CRS 670

- July 8: French proficiency - 3,200 ITAs, Minimum CRS 420

- Other draws earlier this year have also shown varied results across different categories.

Express Entry is a system managing applications for three economic immigration programs in Canada: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Candidates are evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on factors like education, work experience, and language ability.

Category-based selection, introduced in 2023, targets candidates likely to fill urgent gaps in Canada's workforce or strengthen demographics through specific categories such as healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, agriculture, and French-language proficiency. These draws are open to candidates in the Express Entry pool who meet the criteria for the specific category.
