On February 27, 2025, Canada revamped its Express Entry system, adding 19 new trade occupations and removing four from the Trade category. This update gives skilled tradespeople a better shot at permanent residency.

📌 Why it matters:
If your trade is listed and you meet the basic Express Entry criteria, you’re more likely to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA)—even with a lower CRS score.

🛠️ 25 eligible trade occupations now include:

  • Carpenters, Bricklayers, Cabinetmakers
  • Welders, Plumbers, Electricians
  • Cooks, Construction Managers, HVAC mechanics
  • And many more!

👷 New job titles were added, such as:

  • Cement Masons, Gas Fitters, Sheet Metal Workers
  • Estimators, Heavy-Duty Mechanics, Painters, Roofers
(Full list available with NOC codes)

Eligibility tip:
You need at least 6 months of full-time experience (or equivalent part-time) within the last 3 years in one qualifying occupation.

📉 Lower CRS scores = better chances:
In 2024, general draws had CRS cut-offs from 524–549, while Trade draws were as low as 433–436.

💡 How to check your eligibility:

  1. Find your NOC code on the Government of Canada site.
  2. Match your duties with the official job description.
  3. Confirm your code is on the updated Trade list.
