On November 28, the NSPNP announced that they would be introducing a new Expression of Interest (EOI) Nova Scotia has introduced a model for managing immigration applications that mirrors the approach used by most other Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

This involves a candidate pool system.

The province has identified several potential priority sectors, which include:

  • Healthcare
  • Construction
  • Skilled trades
  • STEM fields
  • Natural resources
  • Manufacturing

Nova Scotia also notes that these priority areas may change over time.

Why is Nova Scotia making this adjustment to its immigration intake now?

In announcing the new EOI system, the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSPNP) explained that interest in immigrating to the province far exceeds the number of applications it is allowed to approve each year under the federal quota set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
