North Bay has released its list of in-demand sectors and occupations as part of the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP).
The RCIP provides a pathway to permanent residency for individuals who have job offers from approved employers in participating rural Canadian communities.

North Bay Unveils Priority Sectors and Occupations for RCIP

North Bay has announced its selected priority sectors and occupations under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP), a pathway to permanent residency for foreign workers with job offers from designated local employers.

Each participating RCIP community may choose up to five focus sectors. North Bay’s chosen sectors are:

  • Business, Finance, and Administration
  • Health
  • Education, Law, Social, Community, and Government Services
  • Sales and Service
  • Trades and Transport

The North Bay RCIP region includes the City of North Bay and the surrounding Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, as well as the Town of Latchford in Northern Ontario.

In-Demand Occupations

North Bay has also released its list of eligible occupations with their corresponding National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes, which includes roles such as:

  • Accounting technicians and bookkeepers – NOC 12200
  • Registered nurses and psychiatric nurses – NOC 31301
  • Carpenters (incl. apprentices) – NOC 72310
  • Financial auditors and accountants – NOC 11100
  • Early childhood educators and assistants – NOC 42202
  • Home support workers and caregivers – NOC 44101
  • Welders and machine operators – NOC 72106
  • (…and many more)

The full list will be reviewed annually to reflect labor market needs.

Why Priority Sectors Matter

Since RCIP is an employer-driven program, foreign nationals must secure a job offer from a designated employer—one approved by the region’s economic development office. Only employers in the selected sectors can become designated, and the job offered must match an approved NOC code.

To be eligible, candidates must also meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least one year of relevant work experience (1,560 hours) in the past three years, or qualify as an international graduate.
  • Meet the required language levels.
  • Hold a Canadian or equivalent foreign educational credential.
  • Demonstrate sufficient financial resources to settle in the community.

Other communities that have released their sector priorities include Timmins, Brandon, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, and North Okanagan-Shuswap. In total, 14 communities are participating in the RCIP, with more expected to publish their priorities soon.
