Newcomers in Canada may be eligible to receive $417 this year, along with an additional $167 per year over the next five years.

The federal government will impose financial aid as refundable tax credit. This revamp benefit, formerly called the GST tax credit, will have a 25% increase for the next five years. This condition starts in July of 2026, along with a one-time increase of 50% for this year.

Eligible individuals can receive $950 in benefits in 2026, followed up by $700 annually for the next four years. A family of four may receive up to $1,890 in 2026 and $1,400 per year for the next five years.

Eligibility for payments beginning in July 2026 requires filing a 2025 tax return. For those who have filed, quarterly payments are expected to begin in July 2026.

Newcomers to Canada who arrived after the most recent tax filing season may apply by submitting Form RC151 for the year they became a Canadian tax resident.
