Sault Ste. Marie has become the most recent community to publish its list of designated employers under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP).

Through this program, foreign nationals who secure a job offer from one of these approved employers—and meet the other eligibility criteria—can apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Sault Ste. Marie Releases List of Designated Employers for RCIP

Sault Ste. Marie has published its official list of designated employers under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP)—a program that allows foreign nationals to apply for permanent residency if they receive a qualifying job offer.

Current Designated Employers Include:

  • Algoma Tubes Inc. (Tenaris Canada)
  • Child Care Algoma
  • China Steel Inc.
  • Chuck’s Roadhouse Bar and Grill
  • Extendicare Mapleview
  • F.J. Davey Home
  • Giovanni’s Restaurant
  • JD Aero Technical Inc.
  • Meadow Park Montessori School
  • Montana’s
  • Northern Power Train
  • OTR Engineered Solutions
  • ParaMed
  • Sault Area Hospital
  • Sault Ste. Marie YMCA
  • Viacore

Note: This list may change over time.

To become designated, employers must operate in a priority sector and apply through the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation.

Priority Sectors in Sault Ste. Marie:

  • Education, law, social/community, and government services
  • Health
  • Manufacturing and utilities
  • Sales and service
  • Trades and transport

To be eligible for the RCIP, candidates must:

  • Have a valid job offer from a designated employer in a priority sector
  • Work in a role listed on Sault Ste. Marie’s priority occupation list

Sault Ste. Marie, located in Northern Ontario, has been allotted 300 spots for the RCIP pathway in 2025.

Foreign nationals interested in the RCIP must also meet additional eligibility criteria, including requirements for work experience, language proficiency, educational background, and proof of settlement funds.

Once all conditions are satisfied—including securing a valid job offer and obtaining a community recommendation—applicants can submit their permanent residence application directly to the federal government.

In addition to Sault Ste. Marie, other participating RCIP communities like Timmins and Thunder Bay have also published their respective lists of designated employers.
