Six cities from the CMA were added to the list of regions where the low-wage LMIA will no longer advance.

A total of 32 CMAs have been listed as regions where LMIAs will not be processed this quarter. This has shown an increase from the last quarter during the July 11 to October 9 period.

Starting October 10, regions such as Peterborough, Ontario, began processing low-wage LMIAs, while main provinces such as Ontario and Alberta stopped advancing low-wage LMIAs.

Which CMAs were added to the list, starting October 10?

  • Guelph, Ontario
  • Greater Sudbury, Ontario
  • Winnipeg, Manitoba
  • Regina, Saskatchewan
  • Lethbridge, Alberta
  • Red Deer, Alberta
  • Kelowna, British Columbia

From October 10 to January 8, 2026, LMIAs under the low-wage stream of the TFWP from the cities mentioned above will stop being processed.

One city which has made its return to the list of cities that will be processed throughout this quarter is Peterborough, Ontario.
